Look Alikes?

Ok . . . so, they are not twins. Obviously, Sara Ramirez and Katherine Heigl don't look that identical. And they have completely different backgrounds.

But from the very first moment they introduced Callie to Grey's Anatomy, I thought that she favored Izzie. And the more I watch it, the more I'm convinced that they resemble one another. They have similar smiles. I tried to find photographs where they are in similar positions, but I had no luck. Here are two photographs, though, for you to let me know what you think . . .

Sara

Katherine

Anyway . . . they are both gorgeous! I'm so happy Sara joined the show because Callie's a great character. They have a lot to do to develop her, but I feel confident that they will write good copy for Callie. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

And in Disturbing Pop Culture News . . .

Jessica Simpson’s new album features a cover of Patty Griffin’s poetic, powerful breakup song “Let Him Fly.” On Simpson's forthcoming album A Public Affair The beautifully-crafted song by Griffin (also covered by the Dixie Chicks) is only separated by a few songs from a song co-authored by Simpson called “Push Your Tush.” Possibly a shoutout to her Dukes of Hazzard days, the song has classy lyrics such as "baby it's a hoedown, we can get lowdown 'round here/ take it to the floor now, we can get our flow down 'round here/ cowgirls, cowboys, make noise 'round here."**

Now, I'm not a pop princess hater. I've danced to Spears' "Slave for You." I've turned up the radio to Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man." Jessica even sings a song I've played on repeat back in the day: "Did You Ever Love Somebody?"

It's just that I like "Let Him Fly." And I especially like it without all of the breathy pop accents and pauses between every consonant.

Seriously.

**lyrics to the song are not released online yet; these are the lyrics I heard, so forgive me if they are incorrect

Generation MySpace?

Larry Hollon, general secretary of the United Methodist Communications, wrote on his blog some perspectives on young people he is learning recently. He has several entries about the younger generations. I suggest reading this entry.

Do you think we're a skeptical generation?

U.S. Postal Secrets

I think PostSecret.com is a fascinating web site. People are desperate for artistic expression and uninhibited confession. What can the church learn from this?

I particularly think that this postcard expresses well the U.S. fascination with celebrity. A friend of mine said just this weekend that we like to build people up and watch them fall. For some reason we enjoy falling in love with Michael Jackson, Nick & Jessica, Brad & Jen, Jen & Ben, etc., and we enjoy watching as their fairy tales end. Maybe this person's secret belongs to most of us.

SuperNanny

So I really like the reality show SuperNanny. I don't know why. I don't have children or plan on having children anytime in the near future. I'm not a super maternal gal who plans how she will raise her children before she has even a date. But I dig the show and have been looking forward to a new episode for many weeks now.

Finally tonight a new episode arrives only for me to realize it's the same episode that comes on every week. Bad seeds cry, kick, scream. Bad seeds spit at or swear at "mummy." Jo says, "That's enough. I need to get there right away!" Jo gives parents a schedule and lessons on how to be adults. Bad seeds hate the schedule and the parents' new ability to actually be adults. Jo introduces the naughty ________ (insert chair, room, mat, stair depending on episode). Jo leaves, and everything returns to as it was before Jo. Jo returns to save the day and let the parents know what they did wrong. Jo leaves again, but this time the kids hug and kiss her and the parents thank her for making their previous miserable existence become the Brady household. Update rolls and viewers see the most angelic children in the world playing with the happiest parents in the world. Another happy SuperNanny rescue.

Maybe I'll start going to bed earlier on Mondays.
